Groupware consists of Open-Xchange and other open source components, and the entire solution integrated simply and efficiently into our existing IT infrastructure... Prepared by Julius Walczynski

Some of you may be wondering what kind of collaboration environment we use here at Sourcio.  Needless to say, being an open-source consulting company, it is not Microsoft Exchange.  Instead, our dynamic duo of Tigran and Tigran (Martirosyan and Terteryan) has developed our own custom hybrid based on open source components, written in Java and Perl.

The front end is based on SLOX, the shareware version of Open Xchange (www.open-xchange.org).  The back end, which needed more development by T&T, uses two databases: PosgreSQL for user data, and OpenLDAP for authentification.  Postfix SMTP (www.postfix.org) is used for sending mail, while Cyrus IMAP receives mail.

The end result allows us to create, store, and link appointments, contacts, tasks, emails, bookmarks, forums, projects, knowledge bases and other elements.  Documents can be shared and edited, with complete version control, giving everyone in the company access to the latest and most accurate information.  The entire solution integrated simply and efficiently into our existing IT infrastructure, it is scalable, modular, and has all the advantages of open source software: inexpensive, easy to customize, backed and supported by a large community, etc.
